There are two income tax deductions (Federal and State Income Tax) that the University deducts from an employee’s earnings.

The employee has the option of using the combined UC Form W-4/DE 4(University of California Employee’s Federal-State Withholding Allowance Certificate) or fill out the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form W-4 (Employee Withholding Allowance Certificate), and the State of California, Employment Development Department (EDD) Form DE-4 (Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate).

By clicking the UC Form W-4/DE 4 form, an employee will get the combined UC Federal/State withholding allowance certificate form and its instructions and the abbreviated version of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form W-4 and State of California, Employment Development Department (EDD) Form DE-4. The first page is all it takes to initiate or change an employee’s Federal and State withholding allowance.

These Employee Withholding Allowance Certificate Forms can be filled out anytime an employee wants to change the amount of his/her federal and state tax deductions.
